Sustain your running-resolution
14:26
Hi!
Everyone knows them: The New Year’s resolutions.
And with an eye on the “fit is the new thin” and with fit bodies being the new
beauty ideal a lot of people include “eating healthier”, “sport more often” and
“running”. As usual I also wanted to start running this new year. But this time
I wanted to do it a little bit different than before: this time I actually
wanted to sustain it throughout the whole year. But then once again, I faced a
problem, because how can I keep myself motivated? Keep on reading to get to know more about it.
I have been running once a week now for quite a
while, I often run in the weekend but when I feel like running, I might also do
it during the week. When I started I found it a little difficult to run long
distances but I noticed that it got easier as I ran more often. I noticed that
it is important to have a constant speed; you can go a little bit faster but
make sure you do this gradually.
I also use a lot of interval trainings, that
means that I don’t run a few miles at a stretch, but that I alternate running
and walking. I often run and walk for one minute each time, but the most
important thing here is that every training-session you use intervals of the
same length.
Respiration is also an important thing in
running. It is important to have a good,
constant respiration. In through your nose, out through your mouth. Respiration
is important because of the oxygen you receive, this oxygen causes sugar and
fat to be turned in to energy and so your muscles won’t produce lactic acids.
Running through the forest can therefore be handy; trees turn Co2 into oxygen
and thus the air in the forest contains more oxygen as well. Really handy, and
of course beautiful and quiet.
To come back to sugars; eating healthy is also
important to be fit. But eating healthy does not mean you need to ban all
sugar. Or at least, not all the sugar-intake. Because even sugars are
used by your body to produce energy. No, this is not a reason to have chocolate
at dinner, but sugars are, when eaten modestly, needed by your body.
However, eating healthy is not only about sugar,
carbohydrates, calories or fat. It is also about smoking and alcohol. Both are
very bad for your health and thus also for your fitness. Best is to eat enough
fruit and vegetables (but again, not too much!), not to smoke and not to drink (alcohol obviously).
Even though eating healthy is important when you
are trying to become or stay fit, eating just before you start running isn’t
such a good idea. It is best to eat something half-an-hour to an hour before
you start running; in this way you will prevent getting nauseous.
So these are tips about how to start running,
but how to you actually fulfil your resolution? I set myself a goal: I want to
get fitter. But I also promised myself a little price: when I keep running for
a few months, I will get new running shoes. And admit it: every girl wants new
shoes ;) So, make sure that you show off your proudness about the fact that you
have fulfilled your New-Years resolution to at least yourself and set yourself
a goal. Oh and by the way, don’t put too much pressure on yourself when setting
your goal; you have to enjoy running as well!
P.S. I'm sorry for not posting anything the past couple of weeks. Due to some personal stuff, school and health (whoa - flu-epidemic!) I wasn't able to, but I'm back from now on ;)
